PF CALLS FOR DIALOGUE BETWEEN GOV’T AND CATHOLIC CLERGY

The Opposition Patriotic Front (PF) has called on the United Party for National Development (UPND) to dialogue with the Catholic Clergy to reduce tension between government and Catholics.

PF Media Director, Edwin Lifwekelo, says the church plays an important role in the governance system of the country by providing spiritual guidance and non-partisan credible checks and balances to the nation.

In a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Lifwekelo said it is important to seek understanding from those who discern things from God by the help of the holy spirit.

“The church like traditional leaders have a responsibility to ensure that the country remains united, despite diverse political inclinations of citizens,” said Mr. Lifwekelo.

He said fighting the church is fighting Christ himself and has since urged politicians to refrain from using hate speech but engage the church in a respectful discourse through dialogue.

Mr. Lifwekelo has further called upon Zambians to stand with the church and pray for the leaders.
