Some Traders at Intercity Bus Terminals have expressed concern with the abrupt increase of levies by the Lusaka City Council (LCC).
Intercity bus Chairlady and Shop owner, Viora Mayobo, says it is unfair for the council to increase the levies from k750 to k15,00 amidst the tough economic challenges facing traders
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Ms. Mayobo said that traders have sought audience with the council through their lawyers since last week, but the council has not been responsive on the matter.
“The increment is too much and traders urge the council to be lenient and reach a consensus”, said Ms. Mayobo.
Meanwhile LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager , Nyambe Bulumba, has clarified that some services, including rentals, have been increased ranging between K500 to K1,000 in some markets.
Mr. Bulumba said that this has been done to ensure that facilities like toilets and running water are available to promote public health among traders and members of the public.
He further emphasized that sufficient financial resources are needed to fulfill these services.
