Some Opposition Political Parties have expressed concern with the handling of Mumbi Phiri’s case, in a matter where she was detained for aggravated robbery.
Ms. Phiri was earlier this month detained in Kawambwa district for aggravated robbery, but the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) ordered for her release due to insufficient evidence.
But Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, National Democratic Congress Party (NDC) President, Saboi Imboela, described her detention as politically motivated.
“Mumbi Phiri’s case is among many cases where the current government is abusing power and silencing opposing views,” said Ms. Imboela.
Meanwhile, the Patriotic Front (PF) has accused the UPND government of orchestrating Ms. Phiri’s detention.
PF Media Director Edwin Lifwekelo alleges that the detention was politically motivated to tarnish the image of the former Munali lawmaker, adding that her case is clear evidence of the luck of respect human rights and the rule of law by the ruling party.
