A 35-year-old man identified as Humphrey Musonda of House Number 29, Emmasdale, Lusaka, has been detained and arrested for dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
This follows a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) that occurred on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 18:00 hours along the Great East Road at the Munali Traffic Circle.
Mr. Musonda was driving a Renault Tanker, property of Horizon Haulage, laden with diesel, bearing registration number CAE 4179, which overturned after hitting a pavement due to excessive speed.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, said that investigations revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident and this impaired his judgment and ability to safely control the vehicle, resulting in the accident.
“The suspect sustained minor injuries and was treated and discharged from Levy Mwanawasa Hospital before being taken into custody,” said Mr. Hamoonga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He said the suspect has since been charged with dangerous driving, contrary to Section 155 of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002 and driving under the influence of alcohol, contrary to Section 157 of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002.
Mr. Hamoonga said Mr. Musonda will appear in court soon.
