A Tanzanian National has been fined K80,000 for aiding and abetting an 18-year-old undocumented Congolese National.
The Mpika Immigration Office assisted in securing the conviction of the 29-year-old Tanzanian national, Omary Abuu Ahamadi, on January 8, 2025, who was sentenced to pay a fine of K 80,000 or, in default, serve nine months simple imprisonment.
Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka told RCV News in a statement that Ahamadi, who was driving a Tanzanian-registered Scania truck was apprehended on 29th December 2024 at the Mpika Checkpoint after Immigration Officers discovered an undocumented Congolese national concealed in a blanket inside the truck.
“Investigations revealed that the individual had illegally entered Zambia on 26th December 2024 through the Nakonde Border Control without appearing before the nearest immigration officer, in violation of the country’s immigration laws,” said Mr. Nshinka.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nshinka the 18-year-old Congolese national has been charged with failing to appear before the nearest immigration officer upon entry into Zambia and is scheduled to appear before court in the coming days to answer the charges.
Mr. Nshinka also said the Department of Immigration in Mpika, on 7th January 2025, secured the conviction of Mr. Stephen Lukwago (30), a Ugandan national, for failing to appear before the nearest Immigration Officer, contrary to Section 12(2) of the Immigration and Deportation Act No. 18 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia.
He further highlighted that between 6th and 8th January 2025, the Department of Immigration secured 52 convictions, apprehended 129 individuals of different nationalities for various immigration offenses countrywide, removed 58 individuals from the country, and refused entry to 20 individuals for failing to meet entry requirements.
