Apostles Council of Churches General Secretary, Mwaona Zulu, has urged government to consider declaring 29th December, on which Zambians commemorate the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation to a public holiday.
Reverend Zulu says declaring the day as a holiday will help Zambians realise the importance of the day.
Speaking when he featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback program on the topic, Declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation, Rev. Zulu noted that many Zambians have not fully embraced the essence of the day because it is treated as an ordinary working day.
Rev. Zulu said that most Zambians have not appreciated the day fully because it is treated as a normal day.
“Declaring this day as a holiday would also provide an opportunity for Zambians to reflect on how they should live as Christians,” said Rev. Zulu.
He further urged citizens to observe December 29 with reverence, regardless of its official status, and to embody Christian values in their daily lives.
Zambians will commemorate the 33rd anniversary of Zambians declaration as a Christian nation on Sunday, 29th December, 2024.
