The Annual rate of inflation for December 2024 has increased to 16.7% from 16.5% recorded in November 2024.
The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZAMSTATS) indicates that on average, prices of goods and services increased by 16.7% between December 2023 and December 2024.
In a statement to RCV News in Lusaka today, ZAMSTATS Acting Statistician General, Sheila Mudenda, attributed the increase to the price movement in both food and non- food items.
“The Annual food inflation for said for December 2024 was recorded at 18.6% compared to 18.2% in November 2024,” said Mrs. Mudenda.
Ms. Mudenda said that the country saw an increase in food items such as Bread and cereals, Meat, Cooking oil, Eggs and Dried beans.
She also highlighted that the annual non-food inflation for December 2024 was recorded at 14.2% compared to 14.1% in November 2024 due to price movements in prices of non-food items such as Purchase of Motor Vehicles, Passenger transport by air; and Fuel among others.
