The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has commenced the drilling of two commercial boreholes in Lilayi Ward 4, in an effort to address the water challenges in the area.
The Local Authority has awarded PNR Drilling and Exploration Limited the contract to carry out the drilling activities of the two boreholes at a total cost of K366,374.40.
LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager, Nyambe Bulumba, says the boreholes funded by Ward Development Funds, are to be drilled and equipped within four weeks with the commencement date being yesterday, 18th December 2024.
“This project is considered a matter of urgency due to lack of water in the Ward and it must be completed with the urgency it deserves for the community to realize its benefits,” said Mr. Bulumba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He said that upon completion, the boreholes will alleviate the water challenges that residents have long faced in the Ward and reduce the long distances the community has endured in fetching water.
Mr. Bulumba has therefore urged the engaged drilling company to collaborate closely with the area councilor, council officials and members of the community to ensure the project is executed on time.
