ZESCO SEES REDUCTION IN VANDALISM CASES

ZESCO Limited has recorded significant progress in its campaign against vandalism, recovering property worth K583,992 and reducing losses from vandalism-related crimes to K846,709 this week.

ZESCO Limited Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, says this marks a notable decline from the previous week’s losses of K1,102,643.

Mr. Muambi  revealed that 64 cases were reported over the past week, with 55 directly linked to vandalism.

He said that law enforcement efforts led to the arrest of 11 individuals, with two key convictions secured.

“Among those convicted was 19-year-old Oliver Musonda of Chipulukusu compound in Ndola, who pleaded guilty to stealing copper cables from Ndola Lime Limited valued at K11,537,”  said Mr. Maumbi in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said that Mr. Musonda has been sentenced to three years with hard labor.

And in a separate case, Patrick Mukuka, 27, of Kantashi township in Mufulira, received a five-year prison sentence for malicious damage to property.

Mr. Muambi said that  Mr. Mukuka was apprehended after tampering with a ground mounted transformer , causing damage worth K11,327.78.
