ZAMBIA REDUCES TRANSIT FEE FOR TRUCK DRIVERS

Director General of Immigration, Japhet Lishomwa, has announced a reduction in Transit Permits to K4,500 for first-time application and duplicate, and K5,625 for renewal, effective Monday, 9th December, 2024.

The follows the signing if the  Statutory Instrument No. 78 of 2024, on 3rd December by Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, to among others, reduce Transit Permit Fees.

“This process took longer than anticipated owing to various policy related factors, the latest one being the publication of Statutory Instrument No. 25 of 2024, which increased the unit values of both the Fee Unit and Penalty Unit from Thirty Ngwee to Forty Ngwee,” said Dr. Lishomwa in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said a thorough stakeholder consultative process involving both local and international State and non-State actors, resolved that the most feasible solution to addressing the plight of foreign truck drivers was for Zambia to reduce the Transit Permit Fee.

Dr. Lishomwa said the Transit Fee was high and beyond the reach of most foreign truck drivers.
