GOV’T EXPLOITING LUAPULA CHIEF-UKA

The United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) has accused government of exploiting Chiefs in Luapula Province ahead of the Kawambwa Central Parliamentary by-election, slated for December 20, 2024.

UKA Chairperson Communications, Jackson Silavwe, says the timing and nature of a meeting, where  6 Cabinet Ministers have summoned their royal highnesses, is a clear demonstration of gross misuse of state resources to achieve political ends.

Mr. Silavwe condemned what he called “veiled underhanded strategy” to hoodwink chiefs thereby undermining the principles of free and fair elections.

“We call upon all chiefs in Luapula Province to remain steadfast in their non-partisan roles”, appealed Mr. Silavwe further encouraging them to resist any attempts to compromise their integrity and the trust vested in them by their subjects.

And Mr. Silavwe urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia to take note of the developments and ensure that the playing field remains level for all participants in the Kawambwa Central by-election and any other future elections.

He said the reported developmental projects in Luapula would have taken place way back if government was genuinely committed to developing the province.
