The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set 20th December 2024, as election date for the vacant Kawambwa Central Parliamentary seat and for two other ward by-elections in Luapula province.
The by-election in Kawambwa Constituency follows the conviction of incumbent Member of Parliament Nixon Chilangwa, while the vacancies in the wards are due to the death and the resignation respectively.
ECZ Senior Corporate Affairs Officer, Sylvia Bwalya, says nominations for the said by-elections will be conducted on Thursday, 21st November, 2024, while the campaign period commences on Friday, 22nd November, 2024 at 14:00hrs.
“Aspiring candidates in the by-elections should submit completed and attested statutory declarations and nomination papers, subscribed before an authorized official on November 21, between 09:00 hours and 15:00 hours,” said Ms. Bwalya in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Ms. Bwalya said that all Candidates in the by-elections must also present certified copies of their Grade 12 Certificates, as a minimum academic qualification or equivalent.
She said that all aspiring candidates must ensure they meet these requirements to participate in the elections.
