GOV’T PAYS OUT OVER K200 MILLION CAPITAL GRANT FOR ZDSP

Government has disbursed a total of K256 Million Capital Grant to 95 Local Authorities as part of the financial support towards implementation of the Zambia Devolution Support Programme (ZDSP).

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary for Administration, Maambo Haamaundu says the K256 million disbursed is part of the total US$210 Million that the World Bank is supporting government with to implement the programme.

In a statement issued to RCV news in Lusaka today, Mr. Haamaundu said ZDSP is aimed at supporting some components of the National Decentralization Policy, through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and that the disbursed fund translates to each of the benefiting Local Authority receiving K2,694,736.84.

“The capital grant disbursed to the Local Authorities will be utilised in financing capital investment activities as well as other development-oriented activities.” said Mr. Haamaundu.

Mr. Haamaundu highlighted that ZDSP is designed to be implemented through a combination of the Programme for Results (PforR) at US$200 million, and Investment Project Financing (IPF) at US$10 million.

He has since urged Local Authorities to ensure they comply with the set grant utilization conditions, including the environmental and social conditions.
