Some opposition political parties, Civil society organizations and pressure groups have today launched the Tonse Alliance whose aim is to remove the UPND in the 2026 general election.
The Alliance has further unveiled Former President, Edgar Lungu, as their presidential candidate for the 2026 elections.
Speaking during the Launch in Lusaka today, Alliance Chairperson, Edgar Lungu, said that he is honored to lead the alliance as an alternative government in 2026.
“This is a new alliance that Zambians should use to remove the incompetent government of the UPND,” said Mr. Lungu in his acceptance speech.
Mr. Lungu who could not attend the launch physically due to security reasons called on opposition parties, and civil society organizations to work together in restoring constitutionalism, democracy and the rule of law.
Members of the alliance include Patriots for Economic Progress Pep, Christian Democratic Party, Zambia Republican Party, the Edgar Lungu led Patriotic Front, New Era Democratic Party, New Congress Party, Umozi Kumawa, Centre for Constitutionalism and Legal Justice among others.
