The opposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy MMD has signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU, with the ruling United Party for National Development UNPD, as an alliance partner.
MMD President Nevers Mumba has since announced that the party will not take part in the 2026 general elections but will back the ruling UPND.
Dr. Mumba has commended the UPND’s policies which he says, are attractive and respond to people’s needs.
And President Hakainde Hichilema has welcomed the MMD as an alliance partner.
“The decisions is proof that political parties want to join the UPND in serving the Zambia people in a right way,” said Mr. Hichilema.
And Mr. Hichilema has urged the alliance partners to remain vigilant and prioritise the needs of the Zambian people to build a resilient country.
