Opposition Zambia Wake Up Party President, Howard Kunda, says the Auditor General’s report risks being an ordinary document, if law enforcement agencies do not act upon the financial irregularities reported.
Mr. Kunda was reacting to the 2023 Auditor General’s report that shows a reduction in financial irregularities from over K103 billion in 2022, to K81 billion in 2023.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Kunda said despite the report showing a reduction in financial irregularities over the past years, no major attempts by investigative wings have been made to address the financial irregularities in the public service.
“As seen from the 2022 report, figures were released but nothing was done to correct the situation,” said Mr. Kunda.
He however said that the K81 billion of financial irregularities contained in the report, still shows the deliberate abuse of public resources by government officers in the civil service.
