Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people in Eastern Province, has advised against politicizing the drought that has hit Zambia, due to climate change.
Chief Mpezeni says climate change should not be blamed on President Hakainde Hichilema since it is a natural thing that is dependent on God.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu, in Lusaka today, Chief Mpezeni urged the people to pray to God for the rains.
Chief Mpezeni acknowledged President Hichilema’s efforts in countering the impact of the climate change.
And Chief Mpezeni said he is ready to work with government in addressing the impact of climate change in communities.
The traditional leader says he is ready to work towards sensitizing communities on the importance of preserving trees in the fight against climate change.
He said he is available to brief government on what is happening in Eastern Province regarding the climatic conditions and the need to rebuild the dams in the area to store up water.
The Traditional Leader also appealed to President Hakainde Hichilema to make a law that stops bush burning.

Speaking during the meeting, Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu, thanked Chief Mpezeni for supporting government in the fight against climate change.
