United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) Leader, Charles Chanda, has called on the UPND government to cease what he describes as the ongoing harassment of former President Edgar Lungu.
Mr. Chanda alleged that government has tactics, which he believes are an attempt to intimidate Mr. Lungu’s associates as a means to pressure the former president.
He said government should instead apply the legal framework that allows for the removal of Mr. Lungu’s presidential immunity, so that he can face justice in a court of law.
Mr. Chanda warned that any actions being perceived as persecution of Mr. Lungu could set a troubling precedent for future administrations, hence undermining the principles of justice and fair play in Zambia’s political landscape.
“We must uphold the rule of law and not resort to persecution, as this could create a dangerous environment for democracy in our country,” said Mr. Chanda in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
