GOVT CALLS FOR PROTECTION ON KAFUBU WATER INFRASTRUCTURE

Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu has expressed concern over the rising of incidents of vandalism targeting Kafubu Water and Sanitation Limited infrastructure.

The theft of steel manhole covers, water meters, puncturing of water and sewer lines, and the removal of critical electrical components is seriously impacting water supply and sanitation services.

In statement to RCV News today, Mr. Nzovu said recently, four individuals were convicted of vandalizing a sewer network pipe in Luanshya and sentenced to 5 years in prison.

Mr. Nzovu said vandalizing water and sanitation infrastructure is an offence as outlined under Section 341D (1)(2) (c)(e) of the Penal Code No. 7 of the Laws of Zambia.

“Government has heavily invested commercial utilities to enable them to provide clean and safe water and improved sanitation. However, these acts of vandalism undermine these efforts and negatively affect communities,” said Mr. Nzovu

Mr. Nzovu has further issued a stern warning to perpetrators to desist from engaging in acts of vandalism and theft which have a drain on public resources.

He said his Ministry in collaboration with the Zambia Police, is cautioning scrap metal dealers to avoid perpetuating acts of vandalism and theft by purchasing stolen property.
