The Judiciary of Zambia has launched the Judiciary’s Strategic Plan on Election Dispute Resolution Management to effectively manage the 2026 General Election among others.
The Judiciary says although it has been involved in the legal resolution of electoral disputes over a prolonged period, the institution has not had a formalized framework and strategy.
Speaking during the launch in Lusaka today, Acting Chief Justice, Micheal Musonda said it cannot be overemphasized that maintaining effective and credible electoral processes is crucial for upholding the democratic values integral to any democratic society
Justice Musonda said among other things, the strategic plan reflects the Chief Justice’s Advisory Committee work plan over the coming 4 years.
“The plan itself, boldly announces that it will prepare the judiciary to effectively manage the 2026 General Elections Cycle,” said Justice Musonda.
Justice Musonda appealed to the other two Arms of Government namely Legislature and Executive to recognize the official role that the Judiciary plays in upholding the principles of democratic governance in the country.
