Six stalls have been gutted at Lusaka’s Soweto Market in a fire incident that happened around 23:50hrs last night.
“Three of the six affected stalls were empty, while the other three contained assorted goods whose value is yet to be ascertained,” Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, has said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Ms. Mwamba said a 70-year-old man, identified as Alfred Tembo, who was found at the scene, sustained blisters and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
She said the Local Authority is still investigating the cause of the fire .
Ms. Mwamba said the worst was averted since the fire brigade responded promptly and extinguished the fire by 24:00 hours.
She has since advised traders to always switch off electrical appliances during power cuts to prevent fire incidents.
