SUFFICIENT RAINS EXPECTED IN COMING SEASON-MPOSHA

Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mike Mposha, says  the 2024/2025 rain pattern shows an improvement in the rainfall, moving away from the dry spells experienced in the 2023/2024 rainy season.

Mr. Mposha says it is expected that there will be sufficient rains during the coming rainy season, with the onset of rains expected  in October over Western Province and the Northern parts of Luapula and Northwestern Provinces.

He said this when he launched the 2024/2025 season, rainfall forecast in Lusaka today.

Mr. Mposha said most of Zambia will likely receive normal to above-normal rainfall around October, November, and December while, Northern districts of Eastern, Muchinga, northern, and Luapula provinces may experience normal to below-normal rainfall during the period.

“December, January, and February, normal to above-normal rainfall is expected nationwide, with potential flooding in flood prone areas,” said Mr. Mposha.

And Mr. Mposha said there will be increase in chance of agriculture pests and diseases in areas that are likely to receive normal to above normal rainfall.

He urged civic leaders, churches, and communities to take proactive steps in keeping drainages and waterways clear of debris to prevent water pools from forming when it rains, reducing the risk of flooding and waterborne diseases.
