GOVT URGED RECALL MEALIE MEAL CONTAINING AFLATOXIN

Agriculture  Expert, Gilbert Banda, has called on government to recall Mealie Meal containing aflatoxin on the Zambian market.

Yesterday, Minister of Health, Elijah Muchima, disclosed that an alarming number of dogs have died after consuming Maize meal suspected to contain aflatoxins which is trading on the Zambian market.

Speaking when he featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback program on the topic, “Farming in view of climate change” in Lusaka today, Mr. Banda has also urged government to name the mealie meal brand for citizens to make informed decisions.

“Aflatoxins causes huge damage to the liver and lungs and it is  imperative the affcted Mealie Meal be recalled immediately”, said Mr. Banda.

He has however expressed disappointment with the standard bodies in the country for failing to detect the toxin substances in the mealie meal.
