Agriculture Expert, Elfas Shangwa, has urged government to urgently invest in water harvesting infrastructure across the country.
Mr. Shangwa says this is one sustainable way of ensuring that crops survive during droughts.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Shangwa said that the current drought is a clear indication that water should be harvested and used for irrigation purposes in the farming cycle.
“Water harvesting is an initiative that can also supplement planting drought resistance crops to ensure the nation is food secure”, said Mr. Shangwa.
He has also appealed to farmers across the country to consider having their crops insured to ensure safety after losses.
