VEEP SAYS DONATED MAIZE HAS NO GMOS

Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, has assured that the Maize  being donated to Zambia, by corporating partners, does not contain Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

Mrs. Nalumango says the donors understand Zambia’s stance on GMOs and that all the Maize being donated is free of GMOs.

She said this during the Vice President Question Time in the National Assembly this morning, following a question from Bwacha Member of Parliament, Sydney Mushanga, who wanted to know how safe the donated relief Maize is.

Zambia’s corporating partners have been responding to the country’s hunger situation by donating Maize, with the recent donor being the US government, through USAID, who donated relief maize worth K500 million yesterday.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Nalumango maintained that there is no need to name the Ministers allegedly being investigated by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), until the investigating authority has sufficient evidence to prosecute them.

She said premature naming of the Ministers allegedly being investigated can lead to the suing of the ACC should they fail to find prosecutable evidence after tainting their names against corruption

“You can’t just name until those named are going to court and there’s enough evidence, its not correct to name suspicion,” said Mrs. Nalumango .

She assured that those being investigated will be named at the right time since no one is being shielded.

Mrs. Nalumango also maintained that no law mandates the ACC to reveal the names of their suspects until there is prima-facie evidence.

She was responding to Mufulira Member of Parliament, Golden Mwila, who wanted to know what law government is using to withhold the names of the ministers alleged to be under investigation by the ACC.
