ZESCO Limited has launched the Net Metering Program, set to begin on 1st August 2024, to boost renewable energy adoption in Zambia.
The Net Metering is designed to promote the adoption of renewable energy sources among ZESCO customers, allowing them to generate their own electricity and feed any excess power back into the grid.
ZESCO Spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, says prospective prosumers should have Grid-Tied Inverters to ensure high-quality of supply.
“ZESCO encourages customers to join this innovative program to save on electricity costs and contribute to a sustainable future for Zambia,” said Mr. Maumbi in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He said the benefits of Net Metering include, cost savings as customers will generate their own electricity and receive credits for excess power.
Mr. Maumbi also said other benefits include environmental impact, energy independence and economic growth via creation of jobs in renewable energy installation and maintenance.
