The Lusaka City Council (LCC) conducted a burial for 36 unclaimed bodies on Friday, 5th July 2024, at its established Chingwere Cemetery.
LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, said the unclaimed bodies were laying in the University Teaching Hospital’s (UTH) mortuary during the second quarter of this year and were at the verge of decomposing.
Ms. Mwamba told RCV News today that Council conducted the burial in accordance with the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019 and the Public Health Act Cap 295 of the Laws of Zambia.
She said the Local Authority had issued a notice of burial for unclaimed bodies and the assigned period by law had elapsed.
Ms. Mwamba has since appealed to members of the public to be concerned and check at mortuaries whenever they have missing persons in communities.
The unclaimed bodies buried by the Council were thirty-four males and two females.
