State House Chief Communications Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka, says whatever is happening in the former ruling party , the Patriotic Front (PF) is self inflicted, saying that President Hakainde Hichilema has no hand in the wrangles.
His comment follows the heightened infighting within the PF, which yesterday saw the expulsion of the faction leader Miles Sampa, a day after he dissolved the Central Committee, pending party extraordinary conference to elect new leaders.
But Mr. Hamasaka says it is unfortunate and that it is a source of concern that the Republican President is being accused of involvement whenever the PF face internal challenges.
“The president does not interfere on how other political parties conduct their business and is committed to order and rule of law,” said Mr. Hamasaka in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
And Mr. Hamasaka says new attempts to drag President Hichilema into the expulsion of nine PF Members of Parliament is unfortunate.
Mr. Hamasaka however said the President’s view on by elections remains the same, adding that he has repeatedly called on stakeholders to make recommendations on how to avoid unnecessary by elections to save resources.
He said the President will not interfere with the independent arms of government, such as Parliament and the Judiciary despite his willingness and courage to push for reforms on such matters.
