Opposition Socialist Party Leader Fred M’membe has expressed disappointment over President Hakainde Hichilema’s decision to leave the country despite the ongoing economic and energy crisis.
President Hakainde Hichilema departed for the United Kingdom, where he is set to visit Scotland and England for a series of high-level engagements.
Dr. M’membe noted that Zambia is currently facing a severe drought which has been declared a national disaster, leaving over 6 million people in need of food aid and daily power outages lasting up to 20 hours.
He has criticized President Hichilema and his team for choosing to travel abroad for what appears to be personal and non-urgent matters, leaving behind a struggling nation.
“The President’s priorities should be questioned because the current economic situation in Zambia demands his attention and immediate action,” said Dr. M’membe in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today by party Director Media Brian Hapunda.
Dr. M’membe expressed concern that the country is being left to navigate the crises without proper leadership.
