Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says cabinet has resolved that ZESCO recalls about 100 megawatts of power, out of the 195 megawatts being exported to neighbouring countries.
Mr. Mweetwa says the decision follows the Extra- ordinary situation the country is facing in the energy sector.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Mweetwa who is also minister of Information and Media says negotiations to recall the balance of 95 megawatts is ongoing to ensure a smooth exit plan, saying that ZESCO has contractual obligations on the exported power.
“It is expected that the recalled electricity will be channelled for local consumption,” said Mr. Mweetwa.
He also said that ZESCO is currently importing 165 megawatts of power from difference power companies in the region to help with the energy deficit.
