WATER PROFESSIONALS URGED TO ADVANCE WATER SECURITY

Government has called on young water professionals to be active in shaping the future of the country’s water management.

Speaking during the commemoration of the 12th Zambia Water Forum and Exhibition, ZAWAFE, under the theme “Closing the Gap, Working Towards the Attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs Targets, Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu, said the professionals’ skills and commitment is valuable towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal number 6.

“Water is one of the enablers of economic transformation and job creation that needs to be placed on top of the developmental agenda of any country,” said Mr. Nzovu.

He said this year’s forum and exhibition theme will help to foster dialogue aimed at advancing water security and thereby national socio-economic development.

Mr. Nzovu said he expects the forum to yield progress through sharing of knowledge and experiences that will help find solutions to the many challenges the country is facing regarding water and sanitation.

He said government is committed to supporting the Zambia Water Forum and Exhibition so that it may continue to grow and shape the water security and sanitation agenda for the country.

Mr. Nzovu has also emphasized the importance of an effective and efficient water sector coordination framework and mechanism.

The 2024 ZAWAFE which is being held in Lusaka, will run from 11th to 13th June.

And ZAWAFE Chairperson Imasiku Nyambe said since 2011, the platform has been raising awareness on the importance of water, sanitation and good hygiene practices.

Prof. Nyambe has commended partners who have come on board to ensure there is water security and sanitation not only in the water sector but the country at large.
