United Party for National Development, UPND, Chairman for Labor and Social Security, Godfrey Beene, says the reconstruction and upgrading of the Lusaka-Ndola into a dual carriageway has encouraged the youths desire to get employment.
This follows the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction of the road by President Hakainde Hichilema last week.
In a statement to RCV News today, Mr. Beene said over 4,000 young people with various skills and expertise will have opportunities of working under the US$650 million project expected to run for an estimated period of three years.
“The decision by the government to award 20 percent of the total value of the contract to local contractors exemplifies it’s resolve to empower local companies and the Zambian youth”, said Mr. Beene.
Mr. Beene has appealed to the employment agencies and companies to engage youths who are equal to the task and possess the required competencies so that the completion and delivery of the project is on scheduled time and up to standard.
He has also urged contractors to ensure that the safety of the workers is paramount to their operations.
