The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supply Agency (ZAMMSA) says it has commenced the implementation of the Medicines and Medical Supplies Fund (MMSF).
The Fund is a singular procurement process to be financed by the Zambian Government, cooperating partners, NHIMA, and other approved commercial sources.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Donor Coordination, George Sinyangwe, said it will be prudent to centralize funding obligations into one basket alongside a comprehensive, unified procurement plan.
“ZAMMSA has the ability to effectively manage the fund without encountering difficulties,” said Dr. Sinyangwe in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Speaking during the review of the fund in Lusaka, Dr. Sinyangwe said the fund aims to provide an unbroken supply of essential health commodities.
Meanwhile, ZAMMSA Director General Victor Nyasulu said the agency will not only prudently use the funds by executing a well-coordinated procurement plan, but that procurements will be done in full consultation and with input from partners.
“With support from the government and cooperating partners, ZAMMSA has invested in developing a robust procurement system and strategies anchored on transparency and accountability,” said Mr. Nyasulu.
