Energy Expert Johnstone Chikwanda says the introduction of a subsidy on fuel is not sustainable, considering Zambia’s debt situation.
Dr. Chikwanda said this today, when he featured on Christian Voice’s Chatback Program on the topic, “Energy Crisis in Zambia”.
He said that government still has to dismantle over K800 Billion for fuel procurement , debt owed to oil marketing companies.
“Zambia is still dismantling debt that emanated from fuel subsidies and implementing new subsidies on fuel would be a drawback to the country’s debt situation”, said Dr. Chikwanda.
Dr. Chikwanda has however reminded government to prioritise oil exploration in Zambia.
He said that Zambia is on the Eastern Rift Valley belt, that signifies the country may be endowed with oil.
