Government and the family of the late Sixth Republican President, Edgar Lungu, have officially commenced discussions aimed at resolving a three month impasse.
According to a joint statement issued to RCV News by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa and Lungu family spokesperson Makebi Zulu, the two parties have agreed to engage in a structured dialogue process, facilitated by mediators appointed by both sides.
The statement emphasizes that both parties acknowledge the importance of trust-building as a critical step towards achieving a mutually acceptable resolution that supports genuine reconciliation and healing.
“Both parties have pledged to engage in these discussions with sincerity, prioritizing reconciliation, unity and deep respect for the late President’s distinguished service and the wishes of his family,” the statement said.
The parties have also extended their gratitude to the people of Zambia for their patience, and further urged citizens to refrain from making statements that could heighten tensions as they work towards a respectful and dignified outcome.
The public has since been urged to remain calm, with assurances that updates on the discussions and any further developments will be communicated in due course.
