DRIVERS BACK PUBLIC TRANSPORT REFORMS

The Bus and Taxi Drivers Association of Zambia has expressed support for government’s recent announcement to implement reforms in the public transport sector.

Recently government revealed plans to construct and upgrade bus stations across the country, aiming to reduce congestion, improve service delivery, and modernize transport infrastructure.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, the Association’s National Secretary, Sydney Mbewe, welcomed the move, stating that the reforms are long overdue as public transport plays a vital role in national development through the generation of income.

“The modernization of transport infrastructure will contribute to national economic growth, as mobility is essential for effective service delivery,” said Mr. Mbewe.

He further recommended that the transition be carried out in phases, starting with Lusaka, to ensure efficient implementation.

Mr. Mbewe also urged government to engage and consult all stakeholders in the transport sector before any transition to ensure its effectiveness and to avoid back lash.
