LCC SHUTS PARK EMPEROR COMPLEX OVER SANITATION VIOLATIONS

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has shut down the Park Emperor Complex, located along Lumumba Road opposite COMESA Market, due to severe breaches of public health regulations.

The complex, which accommodates more than 70 restaurants and various other businesses, was found to have only one operational toilet, an inadequate facility for the large number of vendors and daily visitors.

In a statement to RCV News today, LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager Nyambe Bulumba said the single toilet was found discharging raw sewage, including faecal matter and contaminated water, directly into the main Lumumba drainage system, posing a significant public health hazard.

“In response to numerous public complaints, The council through  Public Health Department conducted an investigation and confirmed that the complex was indeed responsible for the unsanitary discharge and environmental contamination,” said Mr. Bulumba.

Mr. Bulumba further revealed that the property owners have been summoned by the Council to explain how such dangerous conditions were allowed to continue under their management.

He has reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that all commercial facilities comply with sanitary regulations.

“Regular inspections will continue to be conducted and any entity found in breach of sanitary standards will face appropriate enforcement action”, added Mr. Bulumba.
