CIFOR LAUNCHES FINANCIAL MATCHING GRANTS TO BOOST SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND BIODIVERSITY

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) has officially launched the Financial Matching Grants under the Zambia for Agroforestry, Biodiversity and Climate Project (Z4ABC), an initiative designed to transform agriculture, forestry, and wildlife-based value chains into more sustainable, climate-resilient, and productive sectors.

Speaking at the launch, CIFOR Country Coordinator, Maimbo Malesu, said the grants, ranging between €5,000 and €60,000, will specifically target Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the agricultural sector.

He revealed that over 100 applications have already been received, but implementation will only begin after the application deadline on September 8, 2025.

And in a speech read on his behalf, Ministry of Green Economy Permanent Secretary, Doubty Chibamba, said the €4.24 million project, funded by the European Union with co-funding from Finnish partners, aims to improve livelihoods, strengthen food security, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to climate change mitigation.

Mr. Chibamba urged applicants to align their proposals with the targeted value chains to maximize both economic and environmental benefits.

Meanwhile, European Union representative Kairi Merilai noted that the project, which began in 2023, will support job creation and income generation for women, youth, and men.
