BUSINESS OWNERS ALONG KASANGULA ROAD WARNED  AGAINST WASTE

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has warned and cautioned some business owners operating along Kasangula Road to desist from disposing of waste in drainages.

During a spot-check by LCC officials, it was observed that businesses such as car washes, home shops, and welding shops have dominated along that road and are posing a great risk to the environment due to poor waste disposal and discharging of dirty water in drainages.

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, said despite the performance contractor’s efforts to manage waste in the area, business owners  have continued to heap waste in undesignated places, particularly in drainages.

“The Local Authority is emphasizing  on the importance of proper waste management practices to maintain a clean and healthy environment and the Council has warned and cautioned the business owners along that stretch,” said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

She said that the warning is intended to encourage business owners to adopt responsible waste disposal practices and avoid further action.

Ms. Mwamba said that the Council encourages business owners to work together with the Local Authority in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all residents.
