The Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has expressed concern with the recent allegations of corruption and mismanagement at the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).
MQHZ Executive Director, Quince Mwabu, says the reported 1,600% markup on essential medicines is not only alarming but also morally reprehensible, compromising the foundation of our healthcare system.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Dr. Mwabu demanded that ZAMMSA takes immediate and decisive action to rectify the damage caused by the corrupt practices by ensuring that life-saving medicines are procured at fair prices.
“To restore its credibility and effectiveness, ZAMMSA must undergo a fundamental transformation, prioritizing transparency and accountability in its procurement processes”, said Dr. Mwabu.
Dr. Mwabu states that the people of Zambia deserve nothing less than a healthcare system that prioritizes their well-being, dignity, and right to quality medical care.
