SOCIAL CASH TRANSFER A MATTER OF HUMAN DIGNITY –GOV’T

Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Doreen Mwamba, has emphasized that the Social Cash Transfer program is a means of upholding human dignity, rather than simply a hand-out.

Speaking in the National Assembly while delivering a ministerial statement today, Ms. Mwamba highlighted the government’s continued implementation of targeted social protection initiatives, such as the Social Cash Transfer and Cash-for-Work programs, which are helping to improve the lives of vulnerable populations, especially the elderly, across the country.

She noted that the Cash-for-Work program has been particularly effective in responding to national crises experienced in the recent past.

“Activities such as road maintenance and drainage cleaning have enabled many vulnerable individuals to earn an income and support their families,” said Ms. Mwamba.

Ms. Mwamba further stated that these programs are making a lasting impact, not only by improving livelihoods and infrastructure but also by preventing social challenges such as gender-based violence (GBV), school dropouts, and the forced sale of household assets.
