SCOPE ZAMBIA SUBMITS LEARNER’S PERSPECTIVE ON AGROECOLOGY BILL

SCOPE Zambia in collaboration with 6 Schools across Chilanga and Chibombo districts, recently submitted a Pupil’s Position Paper and Perspective to the Parliamentary Alliance on food and security, calling for the adaptation and adoption of inclusive national food policies through the enactment of the Agroecology Bill.

National Coordinator, Henry Chibutu, says the appeal follows years of school and community-based engagement on indigenous foods under the Greening Schools, Colleges and Communities Bread for the World and “My Food is African” projects.

Mr. Chibutu said that the appeal also led to a visit to the National Assembly, where leaners not only toured Parliament but also deepened their understanding of governance, policy making and civic engagement, especially in relation to food and nutrition in Zambia.

“Most importantly, the position paper was accompanied by letters from pupils of the participating schools and the letters reflected on their personal perspectives on food insecurity and current food systems that are affecting their health, communities and education in Zambia”, said Mr. Chibutu in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Mr. Chibutu has since called on the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Alliance on Food and Nutrition and all its members to consider the submission as timely, inclusive and a good vision for Zambia’s future.
