TONSE ALLIANCE REJECTS CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT BILL NO. 7

The Tonse Alliance has rejected the Constitution Amendment Bill number 7, describing it as a clear violation of democratic values.

Alliance Secretary General Raphael Nakachinda says that government’s approach to constitutional reforms has been characterized by a top-down methodology, lacking genuine public consultation.

Mr. Nakachinda criticized government’s handling of the constitutional reform process, saying it has been characterized by a top-down approach and lacked genuine public engagement.

He emphasized that announcing constitutional amendments without presenting a clear and detailed plan undermines the inclusive nature required for such an important national process.

“The proposed amendments resemble the previously rejected Bill 10, raising concerns about the government’s intentions”, said Mr. Nakachinda.

Mr. Nakachinda has since called on the government to immediately suspend the current amendment process and instead embark on a sincere, inclusive, and thorough constitutional reform that genuinely represents the will of the Zambian people.
