ZAMBIA’S ANNUAL INFLATION DROPS TO 15.3%

The Annual rate of inflation for May 2025 has dropped to 15.3%, from 16.5% recorded in April 2025.

This means that on average, prices of goods and services increased by 15.3% between May 2024 and May 2025.

Zambia Statistics Agency Acting Statistician General, Sheila Mudenda, revealed the figures during a media briefing. She noted that annual food inflation for May 2025 was recorded at 17.9%, compared to 18.7% in April 2025.

Ms. Mudenda explained that the decline in food inflation was mainly due to price changes in key food items such as cereals and sweet potatoes.

“This means that, on average, prices of food items increased by 17.9% between May 2024 and May 2025,” said Ms. Mudenda in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Ms. Mudenda said that the reduction in the overall inflation rate is seen as a positive development for the country’s economy, reflecting some easing of price pressures on consumers.
