Opposition Leadership Movement has called on Zambians to take ownership of the national economy as a means to combat corruption.
Party Secretary General, Jairos Ngoma, says the prevalence of corruption in the country can largely be attributed to the limited participation of Zambians in economic activities.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Ngoma emphasized that when citizens are sidelined from economic ownership and empowerment, it creates fertile ground for corrupt practices to thrive.
He urged government to implement policies that promote local ownership and participation in key economic sectors, noting that such measures would foster accountability and transparency.
“The root cause of corruption is the lack of Zambians owning the economy because If more of the local people are economically empowered, they will become active stakeholders in ensuring resources are properly managed,” said Mr. Ngoma.
