ZAMBIAN JUDICIARY WINS ELECTORAL JUSTICE INNOVATIONS GLOBAL AWARD

The Zambian Judiciary has received international acclaim after being named the winner in Category 1 of the Global Network on Electoral Justice (GNEJ) Awards, under the theme “Judicial-Electoral Integrity and Independence.

The announcement was made during the Sixth Plenary Assembly of the GNEJ, held from 14–17 May 2025 in Medellín, Colombia.

The award marks a historic achievement for Zambia, recognizing the Judiciary’s progressive strides in electoral justice reform and placing it among global leaders in judicial innovation.

The accolade was presented to Chief Justice, Mumba Malila, who led the Zambian delegation, which included prominent members of the Chief Justice’s Advisory Committee on Election Management.

The GNEJ highlighted that the award followed a rigorous evaluation process conducted by its Scientific Committee, which reviewed submissions from around the world.

Zambia’s Judiciary stood out for its comprehensive, forward-thinking efforts to enhance the independence and integrity of electoral dispute resolution.

Mr. Malila also commended the Judges, adjudicators and all support staff across the Judiciary of Zambia for their outstanding performance during previous electoral cycles

He said the award not only celebrates Zambia’s progress but also signals its rising leadership in electoral justice reform both regionally and globally and serves as a reminder of the importance of continuous innovation and integrity in upholding democratic governance.
