First Quantum Minerals (FQM), through its subsidiary FQM Trident Limited, has allocated 320 residential plots to employees under its newly launched FQM Trident Employee Housing Initiative in Kalumbila District.
The mining firm has already invested K7.1 million in the project, preparing land near its mining operation and laying the foundation for what it envisions as a vibrant, self-sustaining community driven by those who live and work within it.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Kalumbila District Commissioner, Brenda Sankisa, hailed the initiative as a significant milestone not only for the company but for the broader Kalumbila community.
“The provision of affordable and sustainable housing is not just about building physical structures, it is about empowering individuals and families, improving their quality of life, and equipping them with the tools to build a better future,” Mrs. Sankisa said in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
She also underscored the importance of secure and affordable housing in fostering human dignity and driving sustainable socio-economic development.
Speaking at the same event, FQM Trident General Manager Scott Whitehead, explained that the plots will be made available through payroll-based payment plans to ensure affordability and accessibility for employees.
Mr. Whitehead emphasized that the initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to empower employees by enabling them to design and build their own homes, a move aimed at fostering a deeper sense of ownership.
