President Hakainde Hichilema has urged the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to continue supporting Zambia’s reform program, which is focused on driving sustainable economic growth.
Speaking at State House today during a meeting with IMF Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath, President Hichilema emphasized that Zambia is committed to consolidating the gains achieved over the past three years through its partnership with the IMF.
“Zambians are encouraged by the ongoing economic recovery, despite facing several challenges and the nation does not want to lose the progress made” said Mr. Hichilema.
The President also highlighted the impact of last year’s drought, which he said had reinforced the need for energy diversification.
He stated that the UPND government is prioritizing reforms in the energy sector to invest in multiple sources of electricity and reduce dependence on Hydro power.
