The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has revealed that it responded to 29 emergency incidents between March 27 and April 2, 2025, through its Fire Brigade under the Engineering Services Department.
LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager, Nyambe Bulumba, said the incidents included 11 fire and fire-related emergencies, one special emergency case, and 17 special service calls of a non-emergency nature.
“Emergency services involve responding to life-threatening situations such as fires, rescues, and hazardous material incidents which require immediate attention, while Non-emergency services, on the other hand, include calls such as animal rescues and assistance with locked doors or car keys,” said Mr. Bulumba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He further disclosed that during the same period, the Council conducted 408 fire safety inspections on various premises across Lusaka.
Mr. Bulumba said that, 336 applications for fire certificates were approved as part of efforts to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
He commended members of the public and institutions for their continued vigilance in reporting such incidents, noting that timely alerts play a crucial role in enabling officers to respond effectively and protect lives and property.
