The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says that 42 students are currently benefiting from skills training at the Bauleni Skills Centre in Lusaka Central Constituency through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The Skills Centre was constructed at a total cost of K847,071.50 using CDF finances.
LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says the facility was established to provide residents with accessible and affordable skills training opportunities of which a total of 42 students registered with TEVETA are currently enrolled at the Centre.
“The cohort comprises 8 males and 34 females who are undertaking a certificate course in Tailoring and Designing”, said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Ms. Mwamba however said that due to growing demand for skills training in the area, the Centre is considering expanding its program offerings to include Food and Nutrition and Computer Studies in the next intake.
She revealed that the council is also implementing similar CDF-funded skills development projects in other wards which include skills centre in Chaisa Ward, Mandevu Constituency, and another at Chitukuko in Matero Constituency.
Ms. Mwamba said that equipping youths with practical skills will make them self-reliant and contribute to reducing crime levels in the area and will also promoting entrepreneurship and job creation.
